Being burned out at work is something many people have dealt with. You feel overworked, stuck in a rut, and tired of it.
I’ve been there, and I know how it feels. There have been times when I worked countless hours and the feeling of burning out was creeping in.
I remember after a day of nonstop work, I sat down to eat dinner and realized that I had not eaten anything all day. A state of exhaustion gripped my body and my mind was numb due to overstimulation.
But you don’t need a new job or a vacation- you need to change your perspective.
The tip that could change everything.
To help you feel less burnt out at work, here’s a tip that has helped me over the years:
➡️ Think about your free-time schedule like your work schedule. ⬅️
If you don’t plan your free time in advance, you won’t do anything. You’ll miss amazing events in your city, you won’t get dinner reservations in time, and you might even fill your free time with work.
❌ Which is exactly what you can NOT do ❌
When you plan ahead for your free time, it suddenly becomes something exciting and new—something that will help fill up those days when nothing seems interesting enough to do otherwise.
When we’re burnt out at work, we often think that what we need is rest. And sometimes it is!
Sometimes they need to be inspired, or to laugh, or to experience something brand new.
Make more time for what you love.
There’s a saying that I absolutely love:
“Do more of what sets your soul on fire.”
I couldn’t agree more. If something makes you feel alive and fulfilled, then do more of it!
I think it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life, and lose sight of what makes your soul sing. I think we all have something we love doing, or something that is just so much fun for us that we can’t help but get excited when we think about it. For me, it’s riding my motorcycle and rock-climbing.
Luckily for us, the world is full of amazing events that can help us alleviate the stress of being burnt out at work—and make our lives better!
Sometimes this can be about choosing satisfying work, but other times it’s about how you fill your play time.
To accomplish this, follow these steps.
STEP 1️⃣ : Use one of these apps to find cool things happening in your area…
Timeout (Timeout.com)
Fever (FeverUp.com)
STEP 2️⃣ : Choose at least 2 fun things to do a month…
You’ll find everything from art, to different kinds of dinner experiences, cirque du soleil style shows, and live music, to beer-making adventures, speed boat trips, and paddle boating excursions
… the list goes on!
STEP 3️⃣ : And put it in your calendar. Yep, just like a meeting.
You can feel fulfilled, entertained, and have fun if you follow these steps. As a bonus, planning fun will enable you to connect with friends and make new ones.
It’s that easy!
You don’t have to do anything special or go out of your way to make it happen. All you need to do is open the calendar on your phone or computer and add a few meaningful events.
A lot of people aren’t proactive enough about this. Not only can it make you happier, but it can also help you be more productive, creative, and inspired.
We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Even if it’s only for an hour or two, adding things to your calendar that make you happy can keep you fulfilled. Because when something good is waiting for us at the end of the week or month… why wouldn’t we make time for it?
So what do you think? Are you open to doing this?
